THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

It is often said that the music industry (it’s the record companies and artists seen as a whole) is threatened by new technologies such as Internet. But it is always justified: it can be helpful and profitable to improve their audience or to be discovered.

The way to download
1-    Go on Google, what are the three first downloading software you find? Are they legal?

2-    Do you use one of these software or others?

So, in your opinion, is Internet a good way for promoting music? Are there limits?

Read the two first paragraphs: what tools the Tunited website gives to artists like
            Midge Ure?

        8- http://www.musicsubmit.com/
What kind of services does the music submit website offer?

Internet, a tool/ manner to create your music
What do these websites permit to do?

True or False
In countries like Canada and China, you can download music more legally     T/F
With the website Musicsubmit, you can save money  T/F
Blubster is software to download music T/F
Lily Allen is against downloading T/F
Tunited permits artists to take a fairer share of revenue from downloads T/F

To conclude, you have seen through this treasure hunt that new technologies aren’t so harmful for the music industry. However, illegal downloading remains a problem for it.

WORKSHEET
topic : Google not just a search engine

Google is known to be the most popular search engine in the entire world, but search for information is not the only thing it is able to do; indeed, you can create mail box via Google, you can translate anything with Google Translation,  or find your way to anywhere with Google Maps, and a lot more.

1. Besides its use on the computer, Google provide a system for mobile which you can also access the internet services with.
- What are the services that Google offers ? give 3 examples.

2. Google suggests many functionalities. in the main page (www.google.com), go in the toolbar up the page and click on "more", then click again on " even more". here you can find several options just like Groups, News, Translate...
-can you explain the use of the following examples?
-Did you use any of them before?

3. Google Labs offers to try out even more options, which are actually prototypes that are being developed by Google engineers. Among those, the most popular is Google Transliteration.

-What is the use of this application?

4. Google also provide a shopping service.
there are different ways of purchasing : products are classified in categories (clothes, housing, hi-tech...) or you can directly type whatever you are looking for in the search bar .
 - we need to purchase a couple  of stuffs ;  help us find a 12 megapixels Sony camera, and a brown Prada bag between $150 – $350.

5. Google Books is a branch that’s offers a lot of headings of different themes, such as classical, philosophy, political, sciences... we can also read some books online. there is a search bar where you type the name of the book you are looking for.
-for example, I would like to cook something for my mother in law who's coming this week. can you help me to pick up a book ?
-how many headings exist in this page ?

CONCLUSION:
to conclude, we can say that Google is not just a search engine, it is actually more than that as  it suggests a lot of functionalities. plus, we get direct access to useful tools ( videos , shopping) in a click away. it is just as easy as going on YouTube or eBay. finally, we personally think that Google is quiet complete and a good engine to work with.
in 3 words: clear, fast and handy.

mini GAME : get directions on Google Maps

we, students of LEA, are keenly interested in History and tourism. we would like to go visit the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

PRIVACY AND THE INTERNET - Lopes, Obas, Rayar, Registre

LOPES Stéphanie
OBAS Paxianne
RAYAR Alexia
REGISTRE Mara
Group 4
L2 LEA Multimedia

Group research project
Topic chosen > Privacy and the Internet : How much information do we or should we give out?
What are the consequences? Research how people get private information about people online. Is
our information really as secure as we think?

1) Go on Youtube and search the video entitled « Internet Privacy ». Try to find the video
posted three years ago by NewsTeamBoulder.

Give 3 examples of social networks mentioned in this video.
Mention the different tools we can use to publish any personal information on the
  Internet.
Can it be considered dangerous ?
Is it legal to publish information about someone you know without his consent ?

2) Go on Google and search a french article talking about the problem of homophobia on
Facebook. For instance you can search it by typing the two key words « facebook
homophobie ». You have to find an article posted in May 2010 entitled : « Groupes
homophobes sur Facebook : Pourquoi ne sont-ils pas modérés ? ».
Do you think it's a good thing to talk about your sexual preferences on the Internet ?
Can it be dangerous ? Why ?
Who is supposed to limit this kind of discrimination on Facebook ?
Can we do something about it ?
Did you ever talk about your sexual preferences on the Internet ?

3) Now you have to search for a draw. Go on Google Images and enter the key words « privacy
internet cartoon ». Among the images, you have to find one of the Google Page with eyes
instead of the double « O ». The title is « Goodbye privacy ».
Describe the picture.
Do you feel watched while you're surfing on the Internet ?
Do you think the Government has access to all your personal data.

4) On Google, enter the name of different social networks one by one (Facebook, MySpace,
etc) and stay on the first page, dedicated to the inscription.
Compare. What are the personal information you have to give in order to sign in ?
Do you think it's normal to give so much information about you ?

5) Type on the Google bar the name of one of your friends that use social networks, or your
own name if you're a social networks user.
Do you find information about them ?
If yes, what kind of information ?
Do you think it's normal to find information about someone who is not famous just by
typing a name in the Google bar ?
