Group research project
Topic chosen > Privacy and the Internet : How much information do we or should we give out?
What are the consequences? Research how people get private information about people online. Is
our information really as secure as we think?

1) Go on Youtube and search the video entitled « Internet Privacy ». Try to find the video
posted three years ago by NewsTeamBoulder.

Give 3 examples of social networks mentioned in this video.
Mention the different tools we can use to publish any personal information on the
  Internet.
Can it be considered dangerous ?
Is it legal to publish information about someone you know without his consent ?

2) Go on Google and search a french article talking about the problem of homophobia on
Facebook. For instance you can search it by typing the two key words « facebook
homophobie ». You have to find an article posted in May 2010 entitled : « Groupes
homophobes sur Facebook : Pourquoi ne sont-ils pas modérés ? ».
Do you think it's a good thing to talk about your sexual preferences on the Internet ?
Can it be dangerous ? Why ?
Who is supposed to limit this kind of discrimination on Facebook ?
Can we do something about it ?
Did you ever talk about your sexual preferences on the Internet ?

3) Now you have to search for a draw. Go on Google Images and enter the key words « privacy
internet cartoon ». Among the images, you have to find one of the Google Page with eyes
instead of the double « O ». The title is « Goodbye privacy ».
Describe the picture.
Do you feel watched while you're surfing on the Internet ?
Do you think the Government has access to all your personal data.

4) On Google, enter the name of different social networks one by one (Facebook, MySpace,
etc) and stay on the first page, dedicated to the inscription.
Compare. What are the personal information you have to give in order to sign in ?
Do you think it's normal to give so much information about you ?

5) Type on the Google bar the name of one of your friends that use social networks, or your
own name if you're a social networks user.
Do you find information about them ?
If yes, what kind of information ?
Do you think it's normal to find information about someone who is not famous just by
typing a name in the Google bar ?
